The final format of a bill of lading or pick sheet is determined by entries in the system exit point file. Standard documents are supplied in WDLS for pick sheets and a portrait and landscape version of a bill of lading. A custom program could also be designated to format the output for special customer specifications.
Regardless of this final format, a central process is used to build the "body" of all pick and bill documents. This central process, in addition to using the information entered at the order header and detail level, draws comments from a number of sources and merges them to form the body of the document. The comments are merged in a fixed order at specific points during the process.
The following illustration depicts the information that can be found on a standard portrait style bill of lading. An attempt was made to illustrate all of the various kinds of comments that can appear on the bill. Each type of comment has been numbered and will be discussed in the following sections.
