Search criteria at the top of the panel allow you to quickly get to a building/floor/aisle/slot . The criteria must be used from right to left. Specifying an aisle without specifying a building will not achieve any desired result.

The Warehouse Zone is used to establish different zones within the warehouse where products can be classified as having preferred storage locations by zone. The traditional use of this is to tag fast moving items as 'A' items and to tag those locations at the ends of aisles or that are easy to get to as 'A' locations so that fast moving items are the easiest to put away and pick.

In the body of the panel, you will see information regarding reserved use of the location for a particular storer and item. By pressing the <F11> key you can see additional information regarding the dimensions and pallet capacity of the locations.

Press the <F6> key to add a single location or place the "Change" option next to a location to update its information. In either case, the following panel will be displayed.

When you are adding a new map location you will have to supply the building number, floor, aisle, and slot of the new location. The building number must already be present in the building file. Remember to use the <Field +> or <Field Exit> key to right shift the building number. If the building does not have multiple floors, as is typical, leave the floor blank and tab to the aisle. Enter the aisle and slot for this location. Both should be right adjusted using the <Field +> or <Field Exit> key.

Note: Coding schemes for aisles and slots vary by warehouse. Often aisles are numeric and slots alpha. (1/A, 1/B, etc.) Sometimes aisles are alpha, and slots are a combination of numeric and alpha to indicate rack locations (B/1A, B/1B, etc.) When more than 26 letters are used, alpha numbering schemes usually jump to AA, BB, etc. A right shifted alpha formatting scheme was chosen so that AA locations would sort after Z locations and not immediately following A locations.

The number of pallets high and deep are used to calculate capacities and should accurately reflect the space in the warehouse. The height , width , and depth, if supplied, are an alternate way of calculating location capacity. These are primarily supplied for smaller bin locations where parts or individual units are located for piece picking. These values are entered in inches.

The picking sequence is a seven-digit number assigned to the location. These sequence numbers can be used to establish a forklift path through the building. The numbers could be set sequentially down one aisle and then back the next aisle to create a flow through the warehouse. It is hard to set these numbers manually one at a time. A better solution is to use the group sequencing option once all map locations are set up.

The reserved location flag , storer number , suffix , and item code are used primarily in non-located accounts to establish a standard picking location for an item. For located accounts this information is not used.

Once you have entered the required information press the <Enter> key to add or update the record. You will be returned to the "Work With Warehouse Maps" panel.
