WDLS provides for these various needs through the choice of the information to include on the report, the level of detail to be depicted, and the final format of the information. These choices are collected by a command prompt that can either be entered and stored for a recurring report or entered ad hoc as specific requirements arise. The prompting allows for the specification of three separate report formats.

Available Report Formats

The first two sets of parameters allow you to specify a Storer or Item range for the report.  Within WDLS an item is uniquely identified by the combination of the storer, a storer suffix, and the item code.  The activity reports can be run for a specific storer only, or for a specific item or range of items.  The report is most often run for a single storer or for a specific item of a storer.

Generally, the Starting Storer Number is always filled in.  The report can also be run for all storers.  When this is done, a page break occurs when each new storer is encountered. To run the report for all storers, use the special value of *FIRST.  The default ending storer number is a special value of *STRSTR which indicates that only one storer will be considered.  Use the *LAST special value to run a report for all storers.  Otherwise key the end of range storer number.

Unless a specific Item or range of items is needed, the item codes are typically left blank.  All items for the storer(s) will be considered for the report.

The type of report parameter is used to indicate the format of the report.  Three different activity-based report formats are available.  You can request a list of the available choices by placing the cursor in the "Type of Report" prompt and pressing <F4>.  The following panel displays.

Type of Report Formats Panel

The standard report formats are the activity, movement, and throughput reports.  An additional format is available that lists only the adjustments from the resulting activity.  Special values exist for each of these four - *ACTIVITY, *MOVEMENT, *THRUPUT, and *ADJUSTMENT.  The amount of computer resources to produce an aged activity report of this fashion can be considerable when there are many SKU's or lot codes involved.  If several formats are required, it is much more efficient to request that more than one be produced together.  The special values of *ACTMOV, *ACTMOVADJ, *ACTTHR, and *ACTTHRADJ allow you to run combinations.  The numbers 1-9 can alternately be used in place of the listed values.

*EMAIL creates a CSV file to be emailed.  When *EMAIL is chosen, an additional parameter will request the email address where the file will be sent.

One additional special value - *OUTFILE - will produce an activity file. This is the work file that is used to hold the activity details for the reports.  This work file is often used to produce an EDI document of the activity or other custom processes that may be required by various accounts.  When an output file is specified, you are prompted for a file name and text description to be associated with the resulting work file.

A date range allows you to specify the period of activity you wish to include in the report.  The default values specify that today's activity should be listed.  Several special values are supported for the date range.  If you request a list of the available choices by pressing <F4> with the cursor in the starting date prompt you will see the following panel.

Available Date Range Choices

In place of keying the starting and ending dates each time, you run the report, a standard list of date range values was developed for all the major reports in WDLS.  The key reasons are to make the range easier to enter, to ensure it accurately reflects the account periods, and to allow a report to be placed on a job scheduler without the dates having to be changed each time it is run.  The standard values are:

*ALLAll Dates
*TODAYToday's Date Only
*YESTRYesterday's Date Only
*THISWThis Week's Dates
*LASTWLast Week's Dates
*THISPThis Period's Dates
*LASTPLast Period's Dates
*THISMThis Month’s Dates
*LASTMLast Month’s Dates
*THISQThis Quarter's Dates
*LASTQLast Quarter's Dates
*THISYThis Year's Dates
*LASTYLast Year's Dates
*YTDYear To Date

The last three parameters can have a significant impact on several of the resulting formats.  The Location Adjustments to Show flag is used to indicate if location moves should appear in the body of the report.  For a report used to track inventory stocking levels, these moves are generally undesirable.  For a report used to track warehouse activity or to substantiate the locater status, they should be included.

The Lots to Show flag is used to determine if lot code breakouts are to be listed on the reports.  Often lot codes are used to help maintain the FIFO flow of inventory but are not essential to inventory tracking.  By suppressing the lots on the activity reports it is far easier to follow the inventory balance as the activity occurred during the period.

The Include Inactive Items flag is used to indicate if items with no balance and no activity should be included in the report.  There are three options.

  • A value of "I" will include the items in their normal position on the reports.
  • A value of "B" will include the items at the bottom of the reports after all the active items.
  • A value of "N" will omit these inactive items from the reports.

Storer Activity Recap

The storer activity recap report is designed to give the greatest amount of detail.  Parameters allow you to specify whether to break activity out by lot code or simply to report the activity by the item.  The items are organized by the item sort sequence.  This sequence is typically set to list alphabetically by item code.  Alternative sequencing schemes allow you to sort by item description or by item code within a product code.  The activity is listed by activity date.  This is the date the transaction was posted to WDLS.
